Planning to rent a car in British Columbia? Whether you're a local or a visitor, these tips will help you make the most of your rental experience while avoiding unnecessary fees or complications.

1. Be Aware of the Minimum Age

You must be at least 21 years old to rent a car in BC. Renters under 25 may incur a young driver fee of CA$19.99/day at PRZ.

2. Prepare Proper Documentation

Bring a valid driver's license, government-issued ID, and a credit or debit card. PRZ also accepts cash with a deposit.

3. Understand Insurance Options

Choose between standard and premium insurance. Premium covers more and limits your out-of-pocket to $1,000.

4. Watch Your Mileage

Standard rentals include 300 km/day. You can add unlimited kilometers for $19.99/day or take advantage of our promotions.

5. Inspect the Vehicle Before You Drive

Always check the car for damage and make sure everything is documented before leaving the lot.

6. Follow the Smoke-Free Policy

PRZ vehicles are strictly non-smoking. If signs of smoking are found, you could be charged up to $450 CAD for cleaning.

7. Pet Owners: Be Responsible

Pets are welcome but must be crated. Return the car clean to avoid a detailing fee of up to $250 CAD.

8. Watch the Clock on Returns

PRZ allows a 15-minute grace period. After that, hourly charges apply up to 2 hours, then a full-day charge kicks in.

9. Know the Fees for Out-of-Province or USA Travel

Taking the car outside BC? A $29.99/day fee applies. The same rate applies for travel to the USA (e.g., Seattle or Portland).

10. Book Early and Ask Questions

Reserve in advance, especially around holidays. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at contact@publicrentalzone.ca.
